As the sun rises today – the first day of July 2025 – there is also the dawning of new beginnings in the life of the Catholic Church across the Dungog Shire.
Today, the new parish of St Francis of Assisi, Dungog Gresford, officially comes into existence, building on the long history of its predecessor parishes of St Mary’s Parish, Dungog and St Helen’s Parish, East Gresford.
There is much to be excited about today. Even in the face of cloudy skies and the potention for rain, the future of the Church’s mission in the Dungog Shire remains bright and full of potential.
As we embrace the possibilities of the new reality, our hope, a hope that is not deceptive, is that the story of Jesus Christ will continue to be boldly proclaimed in this part of the world, just as it has been for over a century and a half.
St Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
